It’s not every day you see a small council like Shire of Mingenew delivering results that rival some of the largest operations in the country. What sets them apart? A proactive approach to innovation, training, and collaboration.

Road maintenance in challenging conditions requires creativity, skill, and teamwork. The Mingenew council team demonstrated all of this and more, achieving some of the highest standards of grading and resheeting I’ve seen over the last decade.

Here are some standout achievements:

✅Using electronic grade control for resheeting, a rare and highly effective practice that has elevated their standards.
✅Fine-tuning rolling patterns: strategically placing the roller behind the water truck to ensure better water infiltration for the initial mixing and following the grader on the spreading for improved results.
✅Trialing the use of a drop-bar instead of the fan for the initial watering, improving water efficiency while boosting improved production.
✅Recording daily video footage of the resheeting trails to analyse and refine techniques with the crew, leading to small but impactful improvements each day.

Congratulations to the Mingenew team for leading by example and setting a new benchmark in road maintenance! It’s incredible to see what can be achieved with the right mindset and support.
