Spent Two weeks in Isaac Regional Council running an unsealed road workshop – and I’m seriously impressed.
✅ 2,000+ km of unsealed roads to maintain
✅ Remote camp setup with Starlink – best I’ve seen
✅ One of the few councils with a full QA system for unsealed roads
This workshop was all about fine-tuning a system that already works. Here’s what we locked in:
- Gravel recovery: Up to 100,000 tonnes/year by reshaping shoulders and clearing grass – now a standard part of grading.
- Grading standards: 5 passes for medium, 9 for heavy – with clear QA stages like cutting, mixing, spreading, and batters.
- KPI targets: Metres/hour, windrow height, and water volume/km – all tied to activity type.
A huge shoutout to Jason Frost, Michael Erickson, and Jill Cash – along with the entire team – for pulling this together. Excellent work from start to finish.
